Introducing the QuadPad 1

by Robert

quadpad1sml.jpgHere’s a slate-based Tablet PC many of you probably won’t have seen before and for good reason. A product of Quaduro Systems, a small company based in the UK, the QuadPad 1 is a Tablet PC that has had its previous marketing focus directed towards the automative and logistic industry. However, confident that the QuadPad 1 can also perform to a similarly high level of function and effectiveness in schools, Quaduro Systems are now beginning to focus their attention on the educational sector, primarily in the UK.

As StudentTabletPC.com’s European ‘correspondent’ Quaduro Systems have asked me if I would like the opportunity to fully road-test the unit from a student’s perspective and deliver an impartial review based on my experiences. Wishing to provide a service to a smaller vendor such as Quaduro Systems and to bring some unique content to our readers, especially those outside of the US, I jumped at the chance (OK I admit it, it gives me a new ‘toy’ to play with as well).

On first impressions the Quadpad 1 looks quite well suited to educational use - its got a small form factor (8.4” screen), it’s wireless WIFI and bluetooth capable, it’s reasonably light (1.9kg/2.6lb) and due to its semi-rugged build, it looks and feels robust enough for the classroom environment. The machine’s core specs are at the lower end of the scale (when compared to a lot of the machines hitting the market right now) and it only ships with Windows XP Home Edition, as opposed to say Tablet PC edition as a minimum, but I’m holding off judgement completely until I’ve given the unit a thorough trial out in the field. It may just be that the QuadPad 1’s power and performance as it is, more than meets the demands of the average student and with the lower specs, comes a more accessible price point (individual purchases from resellers are running at around £700 + VAT (around $1400), not overly cost effective on its own perhaps, but schools purchasing directly in bulk will enjoy a much more cost effective price-point)

Anyway expect to see my full review of the QuadPad 1 sometime before Christmas. Meanwhile pop along to the QuadPad 1 product page (while you’re at it you may also wish to check out the QuadPad II and the QuadPad Ultimate) and if you have any questions or comments then please drop them in the comments.

QuaPad 1 looks nice and compact. What stands out is a stands that comes with the device. It may look insignificant but as a student, not all room is cool and in good temperature, this natural little stand could help me shed a weight of bringing a computer stand. Neat!

Alas, this is a touch screen tablet…

No active digitizer, no WinXP Tablet Edition… 8.4″ screen… for $1,400? When I can pick up a Toshiba Tecra M4 with a 14 inch active digitizer and WinXP Tablet 2005 (not to mention a keyboard…) for around $600 on Ebay?

I look forward to the review - I hope it has some other great quality that would make it worth it… I am in the market for a new tablet :-)

I personally believe that no best laptop can be universally recognized by all users as long as there are so many manufacturers that produce computers……
