Google Alerts: Get the news you want

by Tracy

First, I’m busy finishing up my last internship with the company I plan on working for and they’re handing out full-time offers before the end of next week. That means these last couple weeks have been like finals that just don’t end and with a big ol’ jackpot at the end if I get an A on everything. Needless to say, my mind has not been really on the site.

But! I did find something that might help those looking for internships or jobs and want to know more about a company or topic.

When you go to interview, the company wants to know you’re interested in them and not just the money. Knowing about what’s going on with the company is not only a good way to do personal research, but also to show them you care.

It personally takes me too much time to sift through the news daily to find stories of interest.  Google News lets you search for news stories containing keywords, but I’m not going to do that everyday. Luckily, there’s Google Alerts.

Google Alerts lets you take a search in Google and will alert you through email when a news story appears. You can have it tell you as it happens, once daily, or once weekly. It’s like an RSS feed that works through simple mail.

This is perfect for me and has opened my eyes about several things going on in my company of interest so I thought I’d share. As a side note, I also have one that emails me when a new Student+Tablet+PC story appears ^_^.
