GoBinder 2006 BETA quick review

by Tracy

Now that the semester has started, I’m sure many GoBinder (GB) users are wondering if they’re missing out on something neat in GB 2006 sticking with GB 2005 or whatever notes program they are currently using.

In short, if you like the GB “style” and you have a decent amount of RAM and a decent processor, GB 2006 has my stamp of approval for everyday use (I don’t even have 2005 installed anymore). If your tablet stuggles to keep up with you as it is, you may want to wait for the final release since it’s rather clunky right now.

A quick list of some new features and fixes:

  • Course tool. Everything created in that course tab is automatically recognized as part of that course. Each course has a base page to see appoitments, contacts and tasks related to that course
  • Categories with color coding option
  • Welcome screen that lists quicklinks, upcooming appointments, and upcoming tasks
  • What’s New screen now shows what’s new in the program, not just BlackBoard
  • Plug-ins on the way (the program is still in beta so plug-ins are limited)! Out now is a Goals plug-in
  • Flags. Not quite the same functionallity as OneNote flags, but hopefully it’s on the way
  • Shapes. Use predefined shapes or turn on the shape recognition tool to make your own
  • Category Filter. Wherever you are in the program, you can see what’s marked as that category
  • Color pallet in the toolbar. No more multiple taps to select a different color
  • Monthly calendar now picks up the beginning and end of surrounding months
  • GB Printer now asks what to name the file and where to store it
  • Printed files are much clearer and the program can handle large files, like books (tested by me)
  • Full screen mode

I’ll go into more detail about the final program in a later article when it’s released. Feel free to ask any questions about the program in the mean time.
